ACADEMIA & VET SCHOOLS

FitBark_Web_App_Buddy's_Activity_ReportStatus

FitBark has been helping a variety of research institutions and vet schools in North America, Europe and Asia validate new drugs, products and treatments. Common applications include osteoarthritis, nutrition, weight management, pain management, ACL and other orthopedic surgeries, rehabilitation, sleep disorders, skin disorders, circadian rhythms etc.

Background

A large number of validation studies for new canine treatment plans do not include accelerometer-based measurements. Rather, they are historically based on subjective (rather than objective) activity metrics, or otherwise on lab-based activity measurement (rather than in free-living conditions). For example, a new stem cell orthopedic treatment might include a survey where a dog owner is asked “from a scale of 1 to 5, how did the activity of your pet change 1, 4 or 8 weeks after starting the treatment”? The main reason why we do things this way is that managing accelerometer-based studies is incredibly complex and expensive.

We’re here to change this. Here’s how we reinvent clinical studies.

TYPICAL CHALLENGES BENEFITS OF FITBARK

Potential loss of data offline Amazon Web Services (AWS) 24/7 backup
Data export for advanced analysis Cloud API, Excel export
Data integration with 3rd party software Cloud API feeds directly 3rd-party apps

FitBark helps you

  • Run clinical studies on a cloud-based platform that makes it seamless to collect and analyze data

METHODOLOGY: OPTION 1 (NEW)

This methodology tends to work best for long-term studies

What you need

  • A personal computer with an internet connection and a web browser

 How it works: Setup

  • You provide us with a list of dogs you’re enrolling and their owner’s contact info
  • We drop ship FitBark units to their home addresses
  • Users independently setup their activity monitor via the FitBark mobile app
  • From the mobile app, users send you a vet invite so you can access their dog’s data
  • You log into the FitBark Web Dashboard and accept pending invitations
  • As users check in on their dogs via the FitBark Mobile App, the data is immediately available to you
  • Optionally, dog owners may get to keep the FitBark as part of their compensation

METHODOLOGY: OPTION 2 (TRADITIONAL)

This methodology tends to work best for studies up to 7-10 days

What you need

  • A personal computer with an internet connection and a web browser
  • An iOS or Android mobile device

 How it works: Setup

  • You create each dog profile as the “owner” or each dog
  • Optionally, you may share each dog’s profile with each dog owner (not required if you’d like to blind a study)
  • At the end of the observation period, you collect the FitBarks back

 How it works: Data analysis

  • From the Web Dashboard, for each clinical study, create one or multiple custom groups
  • Review the data on an aggregated basis, charting custom groups as well as individual dogs

How it works: Advanced data analysis

  • Export the raw activity data (1-minute epoch) for each dog directly in csv format, selecting beginning and ending dates
  • Alternatively, tap directly into the FitBark’s API to integrate the data with your web or mobile app

Costs involved

  • The cost of purchasing FitBark Activity Monitors from us at wholesale pricing
  • The software platform is free. There are no hidden or monthly fees

ANIMAL PHARMACEUTICALS

FitBark_Animal_Pharmas

A large number of validation studies for approval of new canine drugs do not include accelerometer-based measurements. Rather, they are historically based on either subjective (rather than objective) activity metrics, or otherwise on lab-based activity measurements (rather than in free-living conditions). For example, a new drug that cures canine cancer might include surveys where a dog owner is asked “from a scale of 1 to 5, how did your pet’s activity level change 7, or 28 days after starting the treatment”? The reason why we do things this way is that managing accelerometer-based studies is extremely complex and expensive.

We’re here to change this. To see how we reinvent clinical studies, please review Section “Academia & Vet Schools”.

BOARDING PROVIDERS, DAYCARES & PET HOTELS

FitBark_Boarding_Providers

As a boarding provider, you strive to build a stellar reputation with your clients. Some of your core activities include taking doggies for long walks, and sending periodic updates to their parents. Chances are that you are already using some kind of messaging app to send texts and pictures to your clients, and that’s great. FOOD MANUFACTURERS

FOOD DESIGN & TESTING

A large number of studies around new and existing nutritional blends do not include accelerometer-based measurements. Rather, they are historically based on either subjective (rather than objective) activity metrics, or otherwise on lab-based activity measurements (rather than in free-living conditions). For example, food design & testing might include a survey where an observer is asked “from a scale of 1 to 5, how did this pet’s activity change 7, or 28 days after switching to a new food”? The reason why we do things this way is that managing accelerometer-based studies is extremely complex and expensive.

We’re here to change this. To see how we can help reinvent food testing, click here.

CUSTOM NUTRITION

One of the most exciting recent developments in pet food is custom nutrition. Every pet is unique, so it’s important to design the right nutritional blend based on a variety of parameters that are intrinsic (gender, breed, age, weight, activity levels, activity trends, quality of sleep etc.) and extrinsic (seasonality, location etc.).

We make it easy to integrate FitBark’s data sets with your custom nutrition platform. To learn more, please visit our Developer Portal.

PET INSURANCE PROVIDERS

FitBark_Pet_Insurance_Providers

It’s hard to believe that in 2016 there is still little to no actuarial information on dog activity, sleep and wellness available to pet insurance companies. At FitBark, we are crowdsourcing the creation of norms and baselines so that every dog owner is able to put things in perspective.

FitBark helps you

  • Get data that makes you smarter about your customers
  • Understand the correlation between the lifestyle of certain dogs and the vet bills you keep track of
  • Acquire new customers
  • Encourage policy renewals

PET SPECIALTY RETAILERS

FitBark_Pet Specialty_Retailers

As a retailer, you know that great customer service starts from knowing your customer. If you already have an online presence, FitBark’s health, lifestyle and wellness data sets helps you make smart, relevant product & service recommendations. To this extent, you will need your customer’s authorization to access their FitBark data.

If you would like to learn more about how to integrate our Canine Health & Wellness API into your web or mobile experience, please visit our Developer Portal.

FitBark_Dog_Shelter

  • Make a better match based on a dog’s personality

VETERINARY PRACTITIONERS

????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

As a veterinarian, you know how hard it is to receive objective health & behavioral information from the parents of a sick pet. After you make your diagnosis, you also know how challenging it is to remotely monitor the development of a disease as well as post-surgical recovery.

FitBark helps you

  • Make data-driven diagnoses
  • Identify changes in activity and mobility levels
  • Detect early behavioral changes that might relate to illness or disease
  • Create an exercise plan with future activity targets
  • Monitor post-surgical compliance with cage rest and increasing exercise
  • Monitor the development of osteoarthritis, dermatitis, or separation anxiety
  • Monitor response to a new medication or nutritional plan
  • Monitor quality of sleep as a proxy for pain or discomfort
  • Provide motivation for a weight management program
  • Monitor recovery from orthopedic surgery
  • Monitor compliance with an exercise plan
  • Increase engagement with your customers

What you need

  • Optionally, place a FitBark Wi-Fi base station in your office to make sure you have the most up to date information in real time

 How it works

  • Your clients send you an invite to be a “veterinarian” of their dog
  • Create an account on the FitBark Web Dashboard and accept pending invitations
  • Review one dog at a time, or multiple dogs simultaneously from the FitBark Web User Portal

Costs involved

  • Zero. There are no hidden or monthly fees

Example 1: Weight Management

Drive engagement with your customers on a recurring basis. Example:

  • Beginning consultation. Program goals and BMI assessment (make a profit selling a FitBark unit)
  • Week 2 consultation. Review activity baseline, create an exercise plan (with future targets) and a nutritional plan
    • Get guidance from FitBark’s similar dogs insights and calorie expenditure calculations available on FitBark Explore
  • Week 6 consultation. BMI assessment and re-evaluation of activity and nutritional goals
  • Week 12 consultation. Final BMI assessment and creation of a longer term plan

Example 2: ACL Surgery

Get peace of mind while developing an internal knowledge base of what to expect from a successful surgery. Bundle a FitBark with each procedure so you can remotely monitor cage rest compliance, visualize deviations from the expected recovery pattern, and call a dog back into the clinic without any delay if you notice something is off.
